About This Tool

Practical Use Cases
Confidential drafts
Add access control before sending an internal review document.
Personal records
Protect statements or records stored in a shared location.
Privacy and File Processing
Protect PDF keeps its PDF input in browser memory while the operation runs. The workflow creates Password-protected PDF for local preview or download and does not send the entered values or selected file bytes to the GXA Toolbox application server.
Supported Inputs and Outputs
Input
Output
- Password-protected PDF
How It Works
The local qpdf WebAssembly engine rewrites the document with the chosen PDF encryption and permissions using the password supplied for this operation.
Limitations and Important Notes
- A forgotten password cannot be recovered by GXA Toolbox.
- Protection permissions are not a substitute for secure delivery or storage.
- Existing signatures and advanced security settings may not survive rewriting.
Worked Example
Protect a financial statement with a unique passphrase, download it, and confirm it prompts for that passphrase before distribution.
Helpful Tips
- Share the password through a different channel from the file.
- Keep an unencrypted original in an appropriately secured location.
