PDF privacy: visible edits are not always removal
Distinguish cropping, overlays, metadata editing and password protection before sharing a PDF with sensitive information.

The visible page is not the whole file
A PDF can carry page content, annotations, forms, metadata and embedded material. A viewer shows a presentation of that structure, not necessarily every object that remains in the file.
A privacy check should start with the disclosure goal. Are you reducing visible margins, adding a label, restricting opening, or permanently removing a secret? Those are separate operations.
Cropping and covering are presentation changes
Crop PDF adjusts page boundaries. Content outside the visible box may remain recoverable. Edit PDF adds overlays and form values; covering text with a rectangle is not secure redaction.
If a recipient must not recover a value, use a dedicated redaction workflow and verify its result. Do not rely on a fitted preview where the value happens to be hidden.
Properties and access controls have limits
Changing title or author fields does not promise removal of all personal information from every PDF object. Password protection controls supported access behavior but does not make an authorized recipient unable to copy visible information.
Rewriting a digitally signed file can invalidate its signature. Preserve the signed original rather than treating a surviving visual signature image as validation.
Review the exact file being sent
Open the downloaded copy, inspect the relevant properties and test the behaviors important to the recipient. Keep private originals separate from files prepared for public distribution.
Browser-local processing concerns file computation, not every website request. Signed-in history metadata and support submissions have their own boundaries. Read the active route and privacy policy before processing sensitive records.
Report an error in this information
Include the page address and the statement that needs checking. Do not send private files or credentials.
