About This Tool
Repair PDF attempts to normalize a PDF that the browser library can still read by loading and reserializing its object structure into a new file.
What You Can Do
Readable-file normalization
Rewrite PDFs that can be parsed successfully.
Structure regeneration
Create a fresh serialized PDF object structure.
Clear failure handling
Report when damage prevents the document from loading.

Practical Use Cases
Viewer compatibility
Try normalizing a PDF that opens inconsistently across readers.
Archive cleanup
Create a fresh serialized copy of a readable legacy export.
Privacy and File Processing
Repair PDF keeps its PDF input in browser memory while the operation runs. The workflow creates PDF for local preview or download and does not send the entered values or selected file bytes to the GXA Toolbox application server.

How It Works
The local qpdf WebAssembly engine parses and rewrites recoverable document objects and cross-reference data, but it cannot reconstruct bytes that are absent or irreparably damaged.
Limitations and Important Notes
- Severely corrupt or truncated files cannot be reconstructed.
- Repair does not recover content absent from the source bytes.
- Forms, signatures, attachments, or uncommon features may not survive rewriting.
Worked Example
Normalize a PDF that opens in one viewer but triggers structure warnings in another, then compare page count and content.
Helpful Tips
- Keep the damaged original for recovery attempts.
- Validate important forms, links, and attachments afterward.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can every damaged PDF be repaired?
No. The source must remain readable enough for the PDF library to parse.
Does repair recover deleted content?
No. It only rewrites content present in the file.
What should I verify afterward?
Check page count, visible content, forms, links, and attachments.
